Squadron Leader Paul Victor Lloyd of 41Sqn was killed when the Jaguar GR1 he was flying crashed into cliffs at Lumsdaine Beach 2 miles NW of St. Abbs head.

The aircraft was number two of a pair operating out of RAF Coltishall. After a medium level transit through the Newcastle area the two aircraft descended to low level flying over land before coating out near North Berwick. Heading back inland, the leader crossed the coast near St Abbs Head and realised he had lost contact with his wing man.
