'G-ADVU' History

Our example is a replica built by the Vintage & Rotary Wing Collection based near Stoke-on-Trent. The original aircraft was built and flown in the early 1930's by a Mr Burns who lived locally, and who's son owned Burns Garage in nearby Congleton. The replica was built over some 18 months taking approximately 1000 man hours using a copy of the original plans supplied by RAF Hendon. The cost of the project was partially funded by Burns Garage in return for the Flea spending a period of time on display at the garage. The engine used in the replica is a two-cylinder air cooled 850cc as used in a DAF car and the propeller was hand made by the V&RW Collection. In 1994 the collection donated the replica to NEAM.
